Basic Paintball Field Etiquette

This list is a general guideline of paintball rules always read and follow any rules that may be specific to the paintball field where you play at. If you are playing on private property, be sure that the field you choose is safe. Go over the rules with all players before starting a game.

If you are playing at a field, go over and sign your waivers before every game. Don t play on pay to play fields that don t have a safety waiver as this is a sign that they are not insured and don t know what they are doing!

Wear your mask at all times on the field and preferably within the staging area as well misfires happen. NEVER remove your mask during a game.

Ensure that the mask you are using is approved for use in paintball. Do not use a mask that has any lens cracks. Do not use household cleaning products to glean your mask these will weaken the material potentially leading to cracks and breaks if your are hit in the mask.

Always use barrel plugs or bags at all times when you are not in the playing area during a match. Misfires happen! Having your barrel plugged or covered at all times while not engaging in a match will keep unprotected eyes safe. Do not use automatic firing or burst firing rates unless your field allows them. Always make sure that your marker fires 13 balls per second or less and that your pellets travel below 300 feet per second. Anything greater is not safe some fields will require lower numbers so check to make sure.

When dealing with a referee on the field, always pay respect. During a match, the Ref is king/queen follow all directions and do not argue during a match. The time to argue a ref s calls is not in the heat of battle wait until after the match. If you are hit, call yourself out rather than making the referee s job difficult.

If you are playing paintball on private property, ensure that the area you choose is clear of other people and animals that could be hurt by flying pellets. Do not play in hunting areas as this is just asking for trouble. Always insure that there is at least one adult present in case. NEVER remove your mask for any reason. Don t horseplay when playing on private property. Most serious paintball injuries occur on private property because of horseplay. If possible, consider flagging or roping off the play area on private property and never fire paintball markers outside that area. Never shoot someone with your marker barrel touching their body.

Before cleaning your paintball gun, check and clear the firing chamber to insure that it is not loaded. Remove any air remaining in the valve before cleaning. If you don t know how to break your gun down, do not disassemble it take it to someone who does and ask them to teach you. Always wear protective eye gear when cleaning your paintball marker.

Following these basic tips will insure a safe playing field for your next game of paintball. Remember that the majority of injuries in paintball occur in unregulated, private areas. Respect and basic common sense will insure that you stay safe to enjoy many years of paintball play.
